Hatred in the name of religion is more like fighting over for who has a better imaginary friend.
Are the religious people always anti-science? Do they still think that the religious books and their sayings are true in the age of science and technology? Are they causing intrigues and wars for ages? Probably, these are not the true facts, and this is the best time to discuss something about the sensitive facts.
Most people raise their voice loudest by the name of religion as they get a wider support from the community. If the ball can be kicked to the goal of religion, you will get the ultimate works done. Nobody will find the reason; rather, they will blindly support his community. But, the reason for the intrigue and fight was not religion. Therefore, what we see are always not true and what we do not see are not look down upon. The fact is essential to justify!
George Carlin expressed a loud applause by analysing The 10 Commandments, “More people have been killed in the name of God than for any other reason”. But, most people take this as the historical fact. Most people take the name of the wars and destruction by the name of religion like The Crusades, The Inquisition, the Middle East, Northern Ireland, 9/11, etc. You will get so many other names!
History simply does not support the hypothesis that the religion is the major cause of all these conflicts. If you justify the true facts of previous wars, they were not based on religion. Those wars were for territorial conquest, for securing trade routes, controlling over borders, or responding to an integral challenge to establish political authority.
Have you ever considered that when the ancient conquerors whether they are Egyptian, Babylonian, Greek, Persian, or Roman, people openly welcomed the religious beliefs of those who conquered and most times, they have added the new gods to their own pantheon! Amazing, isn’t?
If you look at the Renaissance and medieval wars, they are typically about controlling the states and outdoing others ruling over there. They obviously have supported the church or other religious belief but did not move forward with the integration of the religious beliefs. The rampage of the Mongol invasion in Asia killed nearly 30 million people had no religious beliefs known whatsoever.
Most modern wars including the American Revolution, Napoleonic Campaign, the French Revolution, World War I, World War II, Russia Revolution, the American Civil War, the conflicts in Korea and Vietnam, etc. were not religious. Most of the time, the traitors claimed them as religious wars to turn the victims’ attention to the perpetrators’ motives. These wars really were of ethnic, nationalistic and not religious.
To be clear, my intention is not to prove that religion is not the cause of conflict and wars. The reason might be any, after starting the war, if people get the religious titillation, the fire burns uncontrollably.
With whom are we fighting? They are our neighbours, friends or so close to our heart! Probably, this meaningless fight sheds only blood and gives a divided world. Religion has never been the sole reason for a war. I have never been able to understand the animosity and hatred between the various religions!!!
“Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned.”
Above all, peace should be the topmost religious aspiration that everybody under a religious umbrella should achieve. The demand of people or community should consider with a broad perspective. If there is any misunderstanding or misconception in the system, they should be discussed with top priority without taking them with communal or religious dogma. If it is possible, the world will bloom the buds of peace forever.
